Workshop

Kazerne Dossin’s mission continues to be both topical and relevant in 2023. As a place of remembrance with a high level of sensitivity, we raise visitors’ awareness in various ways. The permanent exhibition situates events in Mechelen within the broader historical context of the Holocaust. This year, 49 portraits of deportees were added to the commemorative wall during the Portrait Ceremony. The temporary exhibition, ‘Homosexuals and Lesbians in Nazi Europe,’ highlighted the persecution of homosexual men and women and concluded with the progress made in the commemoration and recognition of victims until then. Through book presentations and guest exhibitions, Kazerne Dossin brought various themes and perspectives to attention, also sharing new insights from research.

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Kazerne Dossin, Memorial, Museum, and Research Center on the Holocaust and Human Rights, we commemorate, with as many people as possible, the 25,843 deportees from the Dossin barracks. ‘Every name matters’ was officially launched on October 4, 2023.
