International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2026

27.01.2026

On 27 January 2026, it will be exactly 81 years since the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated. The date was chosen by the United Nations as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Commemorative events are held in various locations on this day. Kazerne Dossin also organised a ceremony for this symbolic occasion. In the presence of politicians, ambassadors, and delegates from 19 different countries, wreaths were laid at Kazerne Dossin Museum, in memory of the 25,843 people deported from Mechelen during World War II.

Claude Marinower, Vice-Chair of Kazerne Dossin, opened the ceremony. You can read the full opening speech here.

On this day, we commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and acknowledge that this history does not belong solely to the past, nor only to those who were persecuted and murdered. It is part of our shared historical record.
