Do you want your students to reflect on the persecution of Jews, Sinti and Roma in Belgium during the Second World War? During a guided tour of the permanent exhibition at Kazerne Dossin, a guide will take you through a remembrance site that is unique in Belgium – a place where history, remembrance and remembrance education come together.
The guided tour places the history of the Dossin barracks in a broader context. There are opportunities for discussion and the guide will take students through the historical events, drawing on personal accounts and authentic sources. Connections are drawn to themes such as migration, exclusion, polarisation and discrimination. In this way, students do not only gain a better understanding of history, but also develop skills to engage in discussions about society today.
Introductory film
The museum visit begins with an introductory film about the Holocaust and the escalation of violence in a society. This film can also be viewed in class in preparation for the visit.
