Accessibility
Kazerne Dossin is easily accessible with public transport. The museum itself does not have a parking lot, but there are possibilities nearby. The underground car park ‘Tinel’ is within walking distance of the museum. (Edgard Tinellaan 5, 2800 Mechelen). There is a spacious bicycle parking area.
On foot
From Mechelen-Nekkerspoel station
(1,2 km from the station – 15 min)
- At the exit of the station, walk in the direction of the city centre.
- Walk alongside the water on the Frans Halsvest.
- Cross the bridge.
- Walk further in the same direction along the Edgard Tinellaan.
- On the left side, you will find Kazerne Dossin.
From Mechelen station
(2 km depuis la gare – 25 min)
- At the exit of the station, walk in the direction of the city centre.
- Walk down the H. Consciencestraat and continue to walk straight on until the Grote Markt. (You will pass Graaf van Egmontstraat, Vijfhoek and Bruul)
- Cross the market square of Grote Markt diagonally and walk into the Scheerstraat.
- At the end, turn right and continue alongside the Nieuwkerk, Wollemarkt onto Goswin de Stassartstraat.
- At the end of the Goswin de Stassartstraat you will find Kazerne Dossin on your right hand side.
By bus
From Mechelen station
Bus stop is 30m away – every 15 min. Sunday every half-hour.
- Take bus nr. 2, 5, 500 or 508 at the station.
- Get off at the stop Kazerne Dossin. This stop is situated next to the museum at Edgard Tinellaan.
On your way back to the station take the bus at the stop Kazerne Dossin next to the old military barracks at Edgard Tinellaan.

By car
Parking Tinel
Address: Edgard Tinellaan 6 – 700m from the car park – 9 min.
- On the E19, take Exit 9 – Mechelen-Noord (English: Mechelen-North).
- Follow the N16 in the direction of Heist-op-den-berg/Lier.
- Follow the P-route to the Tinel parking.
- Take the exit out of the building called ‘Sjampetterke’
- Walk from the Kattenbleekstraat into the Jodenstraat.
- Turn right and walk on to the Goswin de Stassartstraat. Turn right.
- At the end of the street, you will find the museum on your right hand side.
Parking Keerdok
800m from the car park – 11 min
- On the E19, take Exit 9 – Mechelen-Noord (English: Mechelen-North).
- Enter the car park directly from the N16 or from the N16/Elektriciteitstraat junction.
- Walk along Edgard Tinellaan until the junction with Goswin de Stassartstraat.
- You will find the museum at your right hand side.
Parking Grote Markt – Grande Place
850m from the car park – 10 min
- On the E19, take Exit 9 – Mechelen-Noord (English: Mechelen-North).
- Follow the N16 in the direction of Heist-op-den-berg/Lier.
- Walk northeast of the main square towards Scheerstraat.
- Turn left onto the Scheerstraat
- Continue to the Wollemarkt
- Turn right onto Goswin de Stassartstraat.
- Follow the Goswin Stassartstraat. The museum is on your right.
Peripheral parking – Shuttle bus City of Mechelen
On Saturdays, you can make use of the free shopping shuttle bus between the peripheral car parks and the Grote Markt. From there, it is a 10 minutes walk to Kazerne Dossin.
By touring car
- On the E19, take Exit 9 – Mechelen-Noord (English: Mechelen-North).
- Follow the N16 in the direction of Heist-op-den-berg/Lier.
- Follow the P-route to the Rode Kruisplein parking.
- You can board or get off at Rode Kruisplein parking or at Guido Gezellelaan on the side of the Centjesmuur. At Guido Gezellelaan there is a drop off & pick up zone for two touring cars. Long-term parking at Rode Kruisplein or at Guido Gezellelaan is not possible.
- Instead, park on the parking at the Nekkerhal, Plattebeekstraat 1.
Access
We make access for all visitors to the museum a priority, irrespective of physical, auditory or visual impairments.
For less mobile visitors
- Thanks to the wide corridors and the lifts in both the memorial and the museum, the whole circuit is fully accessible.
- Wheelchair-accessible toilets are located on floors -1 and +3.
- Folding seats are available on every floor.
- We have several wheelchairs which you can use free of charge. You can book one by emailing reservaties@kazernedossin.eu (min. of five days in advance).
- If you require assistance, please ask a member of our front-of-house staff who will be happy to help.
- The security gates at the entrance to the museum are 82cm wide. If necessary, you can use the door next to them.
For visually-impaired visitors
- Guide dogs are welcome in the museum and memorial.
- If you are following a guided tour, please notify our guide in advance. He or she will take your visual impairment into account when leading the tour.
For visitors with impaired hearing
- You can watch the introductory film with subtitles (NL-FR-ENG). Ask a member of staff for more information.
- If you are following a guided tour, please notify our guide in advance. He or she will take your hearing impairment into account when leading the tour.
- The gallery texts in the museum are very legible. Most of the personal accounts and film excerpts have subtitles.
