On 10 September 2025, Kazerne Dossin commemorated the raid in Northern France of 11 September 1942, in which 513 men, women, and children were arrested and deported. Only 17 survived the deportation.
The ceremony in Mechelen was attended by the French ambassador, official representatives, Belgian and French organizations, and students from Lycée Français Jean Monnet. Tomas Baum, director of Kazerne Dossin, emphasized: “We gather to remember them. To keep their names, their stories, their humanity alive.”
The commemoration began with a wreath-laying and was followed by presentations on the deportation routes and life stories of the victims. Georges Komar, a survivor of the raid, shared his testimony.
All attendees also participated in the Every Name Matters project, in which the names of all people deported from Kazerne Dossin are read aloud by a single participant. The project aims to symbolically return to the deportees the names that were taken from them when recorded on the transport lists.
