Guest exhibition: Ordinary people in times of war

16.06.2022 - 18.09.2022

The guest exhibition ‘Ordinary people in times of war’ is a duo graphic exhibition of ‘Scherven en Littekens’ (‘Shards & Scars’) by Erik de Graaf and ‘Robbedoes, hoop in bange dagen’ ( ‘Spirou – Hope in anxious days’) by Emile Bravo.

Through various scenes, the exhibition takes you along the moral dilemmas and situations that ‘ordinary people’ faced in the maelstrom of the Second World War, and confronts you with the question of how you would have acted in their place.

The stories of Erik de Graaf and Emile Bravo cast a glance at four grim years of wartime and the scars they left behind.

“Heroism is about survival! My Spirou is still a child. So I was constantly trying to put myself in his shoes and wondering how I would react in his situation.” – Emile Bravo

“I used aspects from several true stories in my story. I also asked myself what I would have done if I had lived in that period. How would I have reacted?” – Erik de Graaf
