From February 2 to February 28, you can visit the temporary exhibition “Stolen Jewish Legacies: The Fate of the Andriesse Collection” at Kazerne Dossin.
The exhibition focuses on the Andriesse family, a Jewish family who lived in Brussels. Hugo Daniel Andriesse (1867-1942) and his wife Elisabeth Andriesse (1871-1963) were socially prominent benefactors and dedicated art collectors. Their collection included Old Master paintings and exquisite tapestries. In 1940, they fled to New York to escape deportation, leaving their collection behind in Brussels.
This exhibition tells the story of their lives and the fate of their collection, which was looted by the Nazis in 1941 and never fully recovered.
The exhibition was created by the Jewish Digital Cultural Recovery Project Foundation (JDCRP) and curated by Anne Uhrlandt (Research and Documentation Officer at JDCRP) in cooperation with Kazerne Dossin, the Jewish Museum of Belgium, and the FPS Economy.
The exhibition “Stolen Jewish Legacies: The Fate of the Andriesse Collection” will run from Sunday, February 2, to Friday, February 28, 2025.
