From 14 May to 31 August 2026, Kazerne Dossin will host the guest exhibition Re\turn. Commissioned by Fedasil, Magnum photographer Carl De Keyzer travelled to eight countries to document how individuals who voluntarily return home after a journey of flight rebuild their lives.
In addition to providing reception for asylum seekers, Fedasil coordinates the voluntary return programme, assisting migrants who wish to return to their country of origin. Thanks to the global network of Caritas International and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), returnees receive ongoing support and reintegration assistance upon arrival.
In this exhibition, you will meet Vital from Rwanda, Rosa from El Salvador, and Igis from Albania. They returned home voluntarily and, along with ten others, share their stories in Re\turn. Photographer Carl De Keyzer visited them in their home countries to capture their journeys on film. These images are paired with the narratives of journalist Catherine Vuylsteke. The exhibition features stories from eight different countries: Armenia, North Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, El Salvador, Brazil, and Rwanda.
Discover these stories at Kazerne Dossin from 14 May to 31 August. By presenting contemporary stories of voluntary return within this historical context, Re\turn creates a space for dialogue. The aim is not to simplify similarities, but to reflect on enduring questions regarding migration, departure, return, and the human experience of being on the move.
