Guest Exhibition: Landscape Archive

08.05.2025 - 30.06.2025

From May 8 through June 30, 2025, you can visit the guest exhibition Landscape Archive at Kazerne Dossin. The exhibition takes you on an artistic journey through hidden Holocaust sites in Poland.

The landscape is full of evidence and traces of what happened in the past. Many places that seem insignificant at first glance turn out to hold the memory of a distant and often forgotten history. Among these are unmarked and unremembered burial sites of Holocaust victims. Across Central and Eastern Europe, the landscape is dotted with forgotten individual graves and mass graves of Jews who were not deported to extermination camps but were murdered locally by Nazis and their collaborators.

The exhibition presents the results of research carried out by the Zapomniane Foundation, an organization dedicated to locating unmarked burial sites of Holocaust victims in Poland. Their work is conducted with respect for Jewish religious burial traditions. Using advanced technologies, archival research and testimonies of local communities, they identify these sites without disturbing the graves.

The exhibition is organized by the Polish Institute Brussels, the Zapomniane Foundation, and the Urban Memory Foundation, and is curated by Dr. Aleksandra Janus.

Landscape Archive will be on view from Thursday, May 8 through Monday, June 30, 2025.  On occasion, guided tours will be organised. More information to come.
