After two and a half years, the names of all the deportees have been recorded. Thanks to all the participants, we were able to give 25,843 Jews, Sinti, and Roma back their names. Each name was recorded by a unique participant who formed a unique connection with a deportee.
The names will soon be played continuously at the memorial. At the very spot where their names were taken, we will let them resound together. Discover a sneak peek of what that will sound like in this video.
It’s hard to grasp the sheer number of people who passed through the Dossin Barracks. But when I saw Jacob, it became real: a person who truly lived. He was about my age; what did he still want to do with his life—with all that time he never got?

In June 2026, Emma recorded the name of Baruch Sosna. With that, all the names have been recorded. All the Jews, Sinti, and Roma who were deported from the Dossin Barracks in Mechelen have thus been given a voice again.
To conclude the project, we will be organizing a photo exhibition in collaboration with Lieve Blancquaert starting this fall. The exhibition will feature historical portraits of deportees alongside contemporary portraits of participants. The connection between them varies: sometimes they share the same age or birthday, sometimes they have the same name, and sometimes there is no specific similarity, but there is always a connection.
