The Kazerne Dossin Memorial is not just an ordinary exhibition space, but a serene environment of remembrance and commemoration of the 25,843 Jews, Sinti and Roma who were deported from the Dossin Barracks. During a guided tour, you will get an impression of what took place within these walls during the Second World War.
The story told here goes beyond mere historical facts. It was here that Jews, Sinti and Roma
were stripped of their possessions, their identity and their human dignity, which is why this
space has now been transformed into a serene place of remembrance for those who were
dehumanised and degraded here.
The guide will take you on a tour of historical artefacts, letters and works of art. Personal
accounts will provide a poignant insight into the reality and conditions at the Dossin
Barracks. At the end of the guided tour, you will descend to the basement, where the names
of those who were deported are proclaimed. There is also a separate room dedicated to the
children who were deported. A place to quietly reflect and remember together, to ensure that
we never forget.
