Sport and sportspeople in KL Auschwitz: with schools

Would you like to introduce your students to the story of the Holocaust in a new way? Or do you have students in your class who are passionate about sports? Then opt for a guided tour of the temporary exhibition “Sport and Sportspeople in KL Auschwitz”.

Sport had a dual meaning in the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp. It was both a means of survival and a form of oppression. The life stories of deported athletes reveal this tragic reality while also highlighting their incredible strength, creativity, and perseverance. Letters, photographs, and testimonies recount the powerful stories of sport and sportspeople in Auschwitz.

How can sport help in difficult circumstances? Is it still sport when it is used as a form of punishment? And what is the unifying power of sport? Through these and other questions, students reflect on the role of sport in extreme conditions.
